PROLONGED APPLICATION PERIOD

The Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec (IUCPQ) and the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval are seeking to nominate a Research Chair in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. We welcome applications from exceptional scientists with strong research records, who are capable of consolidating an interdisciplinary and structuring research program in bariatric and metabolic surgery. Candidacies from bariatric surgeons or from internists/endocrinologists will be privileged. The appointment will commence at the level of Full Professor, with tenure at Université Laval.

The Chair is funded (research and salary) by a major corporate organization (1.5 M CAD / 5 years). This amount could be increased by partnering with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) via its industry chair program. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct research and to take on graduate supervision as well as other supervisory and clinical activities.

The Chair will be hosted by Université Laval and located at the IUCPQ in Quebec City. The IUCPQ provides tertiary care in cardiology, respirology and bariatric surgery. It brings together in a single location the largest pool of cardiologists, respirologists and bariatric surgeons in Canada. With seven bariatric surgeons, the IUCPQ hosts the largest Canadian bariatric surgery unit. The Chair holder will be a member of the IUCPQ Research Center (CRIUCPQ) and will be given custom medical privilege. The CRIUCPQ comprises well-renowned experts in the fields of cardiology, respirology and obesity, which represent the three research axes of the CRIUCPQ. Those axes are therefore perfectly aligned with the clinical specialties of the IUCPQ, which promotes translational and interdisciplinary research programs focusing on clinical issues. The CRIUCPQ is affiliated to Université Laval, which is among the best institutions in the world for its research in obesity.

The Department of Endocrinology at Gundersen Lutheran is seeking a 1.0 FTE board certified/board eligible adult endocrinologist. The department currently consists of five endocrinologists; four are located at the La Crosse Clinic Campus and one is at the Onalaska Clinic location immediately adjacent to La Crosse. An endocrinology trained nurse practitioner or PA works in each of these locations as well. Both department locations have an ADA recognized diabetes education program. Five additional regional (rural) clinic locations in the Gundersen Lutheran Health System also have recognized programs. Hospital consult rounds and call is rotated on a two-week basis among all of the endocrinologists. A CDE RN from the Endocrinology Department serves as a nurse resource to the hospital patients and nurses to assist with diabetes teaching and transition to ambulatory diabetes care.
